When we discuss HIV and AIDS as a country we have two theories:
1. Something about some monkey in Africa.
2. Some disease created by white men to extinguish people of color and as the late eighties began, a little something to rid the world of homosexuals. Well, it seems that another theory has appeared.
And, this one seems to combine the two. Well, in a way. In an article regarding the history of the origin of the disease it details how one monkey could’ve been the beginning of what became an epidemic, but could’ve been isolated in one part of Africa and ultimately destroyed before becoming an epidemic. But, the amazing thing that is detailed is that because of the “scramble for Africa” it became an epidemic. If it had not been for colonization where white men scrambled for the resources and people of Africa for greater economic gain, it may have never happened.
The article says this:
- A white colonial, as we’ll refer to him, killed a monkey infected with the disease for food.
- He then shares the monkey’s meat for food and it spreads amongst his family and friends.
- It catapults and as these infected men and women traveled, so did the disease.
- An epidemic that took over the world began.
